Depression is a condition whereby a person does not feel right mentally or physically and in which the overall quality of life is reduced. Some forms of depression can be treated with medications, but this does not alleviate the underlying cause of the depression. In addition, many of the medications can cause side-effects and negative feelings so that people stop taking the medication which begins the cycle of depression anew. Many people suffer with feelings of sadness, issues of self-worth and more serious depression which limit their enjoyment of life, ability to work, study, eat, sleep, and ability to function on a normal level. CBT helps identify unhealthy negative beliefs, behaviors and emotions that cause your depression. The events, experiences and feelings that contribute to depression are in your past and stored in your unconscious mind. Unlike most traditional “talk” therapies that work on the conscious level, CBT gets to the root of the problems in your unconscious and gives you tools to eliminate them. CBT methods such as Time Line Therapy® work primarily at the unconscious level to locate and change perceptions of the events that caused the depression, thereby freeing you of your past negative associations and feelings and allowing you to move forward in a positive and healthy way.

The unconscious is the most amazing supercomputer ever created. It runs the body, stores all of your memories and contains everything you have learned and your perceptions of past events which create the pattern of your behavior today. Sometimes, the memory of an event is stored with the emotion of the moment which may cause problems in the future. For example, you can probably think about an event in the past where you had a strong negative emotion, like anger, but when you think of the event now you remember it but don’t feel any anger. However, you may think of another event where you were angry in the past and, just thinking about it, the anger builds inside you as if it was happening now. Time Line Therapy® can be used to “clear” all the old negative emotions built up inside you so that you start fresh and are no longer influenced by these old situations, emotions and memories.

Another problem which arises is thinking about an event in the past and wishing you could have done it differently. At any point in our life, we use the knowledge and learning we have to deal with any given situation as best we can. Of course, how we deal with something when we are 5 or 10 years old may be very different from how we’d react at 30 years old. Using CBT methods such as Time Line Therapy®, you can go back to key events in your life and “re-imagine” them using the learning and knowledge you have today. This allows you to change your perceptions of those events and gain understanding so that you let go of the “what ifs” from the past and move forward unburdened by those events.

Time Line Therapy® can help your unconscious re-examine and reprocess events in your life quickly and unemotionally. The first step is to help you shed all of your stored negative emotions such as anger, sadness, fear and guilt. Once your unconscious has released all of the negative emotions, we then work with your conscious and unconscious to re-examine all of the limiting decisions and beliefs about yourself that were created in your past and which have held you back from what you want to achieve. By removing all the old emotional baggage from your past, you can now move forward in your life, free of the negative programming from your past.
